Since 1997, Prescription Read has provided books to children during visits to Plymouth Pediatrics and Midstate Health. Babies and toddlers at ages 6, 12, 18, and 24 months receive age-appropriate board books. Children up to age 4 get YLLA-sponsored books, while those 5–12 years receive book vouchers redeemable at Step Ladders thrift store. All books, vouchers, and store support are funded by YLLA.
“Got Lunch?” Book Vouchers
Each summer, YLLA includes a book voucher in weekly “Got Lunch?” bags for students. These vouchers can be redeemed at Step Ladders thrift store, giving children the chance to choose books to read during school vacation. This partnership helps keep reading part of summer routines and supports local access to affordable books.
Pemi-Baker Literacy
YLLA provides annual funds to Pemi-Baker Literacy, a local organization offering tutoring in reading, writing, and English language skills. These funds help recruit and train volunteer tutors, purchase learning materials, and expand access to one-on-one instruction for learners of all ages in the community.
YLLA Scholarships
In partnership with Plymouth Regional High School teachers and administration, YLLA now awards three $1,000 scholarships each year to graduating seniors. These scholarships help cover college or vocational costs to deserving local graduates.
